What to Bring to Your Appointment
Neuro Imaging Winter Park ensures your visit is seamless and efficient. Please review these essential items for your diagnostic imaging visit.
Prior Imaging Studies
If you have had an imaging study (Xray, ultrasound, bone scan, mammograms, MRI, or CT) of the body part being imaged, please bring all pertinent films with any available reports to our office at the time of your appointment. Depending on what films you bring and their relevance to your exam, you may either take your films when you leave or return at a later time for pick-up.
How to Dress
For MRI, You may wear regular clothes or street clothes to your appointment, however, all metal objects will have to be removed due to image artifacts. Some athleticwear such as Lululemon and other types of athleticwear may contain metal and should not be worn. You will be provided with a gown if your clothes are not compatible with the scanner.
Before your MRI begins you will be directed to a changing room with a locker where you can store your clothes and personal belongings.
Fasting
Certain types of exams may require the patient to fast prior to their imaging. The duration and type of fasting may vary based on the type of exam.
During your scheduling call with our office, you will be advised of any fasting requirements for your scan.

Arrival & Check-in
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your exam start time. If you are to receive oral sedation, we ask that you please arrive 30 minutes prior to the exam start time.
Preparation
Depending on the scan, you may be asked to change into a medical gown and remove any metal objects for safety during your scan.
The Imaging Scan

- We work with most major insurance providers. Contact our team before your visit to verify coverage and obtain any necessary pre-authorization. We also offer competitive self-pay rates.
- Please bring your driver's license and insurance card, a copy of the prescription for your scan, and a list of your current medications. If you have had prior imaging done to the area being scanned, please bring the most recent images so they may be compared to your current scan.
- Yes, most imaging services require a referral or prescription from your physician. We can also accept orders from chiropractors and other qualified providers depending on the exam.
Note: Chiropractors are not able to place orders for Medicare patients. If you have Medicare, make sure your exam was ordered by your physician. - Claustrophobic patients are often anxious about the MRI experience. However, modern MRI's have much shorter and wider cylinders than in years past, making the experience much more comfortable for claustrophobic patients.
At Neuro Imaging Winter Park, our MRI scanners are wide bore. If you are still concerned about claustrophobia, our radiologist will also prescribe a mild sedative for conscious sedation to help you relax. You don't need a prescription from your referring doctor or need to take medication in advance of your appointment. Simply tell our office staff when scheduling your appointment and we will make the appropriate arrangements.
If you are scheduled for sedation, you must have a driver with you at the time of the appointment. A ridesharing service or taxi is not accepted as a driver. - Certain types of exams may require the patient to fast prior to their imaging. The duration and type of fasting may vary based on the type of exam. During your scheduling call with our office, you will be advised of any fasting requirements for your scan.
For Prostate MRI, special prep is required.
Prostate MRI Prep - X-rays take 5–15 minutes. Ultrasounds range 20–45 minutes. CT scans take 10–30 minutes. MRI scans typically range 20–40 minutes per body part being scanned.
- After your examination is completed, the images are sent digitally to our subspecialty-trained radiologist for interpretation. Once the onsite radiologist reviews all of the images, they will issue a report. The report is then faxed or delivered to your doctor's office. Results are typically sent to your referring physician within 24–48 hours.
A copy of the disc of your images is available upon request.. - MRI uses magnetic fields and radio waves—no ionizing radiation. CT uses a low dose of radiation, and we follow ALARA (As low as reasonably achieveable) principles to minimize exposure. All procedures are performed by experienced technologists under radiologist supervision.
- You are welcome to bring a companion to the facility, but they may not be able to enter the scan room with you due to safety protocols. Please inform us in advance if you require special assistance or have mobility concerns.
Please note that children cannot go into the exam room with you and we are unable to supervise small children. If small children are with you, another adult must be present to supervise them for the duration of your scan. - The decision to administer intravenous contrast is determined either by the referring doctor or the onsite radiologist.
There are two types of contrast: oral and intravenous. Oral contrast is a barium or gastrografin based drink that is given to most patients receiving an abdomen or pelvic CT. This allows the radiologist to differentiate the small and large bowel from other structures in the abdomen.
Intravenous contrast is used for both MRI and CT and is given to patients with certain diseases or suspected diseases. - Yes, we offer complimentary parking for our patients. The facility is also wheelchair accessible.

However, ear plugs will be provided to each patient to help drown out the noise. Patients may request a genre of music to play in the scan room during their scan.
- Certain types of metal, implants, or devices may be unsafe in an MRI machine. Please speak with our staff to determine your individual safety profile.
- Yes. It is extremely important that patients not move during the scan. Any minor movement can make the images unreadable and will require repeating the scan.
- We offer MRI, CT, X-ray, and Ultrasound services.
- Preparation varies by exam type. Our scheduling team will provide specific instructions when you book. Generally, remove all metal objects for MRI, wear comfortable clothing, and bring your ID, insurance card, prescription, and any prior imaging and reports. Some exams may require fasting or contrast preparation.
